Creating a Safe and Humane Border Policy

On May 15, Foreign Policy for America hosted Congresswoman Veronica Escobar and Nazanin Ash for an event to discuss how to create a safe and humane border policy.

Congresswoman Veronica Escobar represents Texas’ 16th Congressional District in El Paso, a district on the U.S. – Mexico border. She serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Armed Services Committee. Rep. Escobar also serves in positions in both the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. She is the Co-Chair of the Immigration Taskforce on the Democratic Women’s Working Group.

Nazanin Ash is vice president for public policy and advocacy at the International Rescue Committee and a visiting policy fellow at the Center for Global Development. Ash previously served as deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the Department of State and on the secretary of state’s policy planning staff. Ash also served as principal advisor and chief of staff to the first director of U.S. foreign assistance and administrator at USAID, designing strategies for allocating foreign assistance.
