Washington D.C. — The War Powers Resolution is clear: the President must begin to bring U.S. troops home and end its costly Iran war. Sixty days have passed without congressional authorization of this conflict, and the law requires the President to remove armed forces from hostilities.
This war has been a disaster for the American people. Gas prices have surged over $1 a gallon since the conflict began, and disruptions to fertilizer, food, and high-tech supply chains are driving costs for families, farmers, and small businesses across the country. Thirteen service members have been killed and hundreds wounded, while the Pentagon’s direct costs have already topped $25 billion. It’s no wonder 61% of Americans now call this war a mistake — a disapproval rate rivaling Iraq and Vietnam.
Congress has an obligation to those it represents to assert its constitutional role to prevent another forever war, get U.S. service members out of harm’s way, and work to bring down the higher costs felt by the American people because of this conflict.
