Washington D.C. — President Trump has taken another hammer to global stability and order. Abandoning ongoing negotiations, the President has launched an all-out war of regime change against Iran. This war is wrong, it is reckless, it is costly, and it delivers absolutely nothing for American families.
Foreign Policy for America condemns Trump’s war of choice and calls on Congress to immediately return to Washington to vote on Congressional War Powers Resolutions introduced by Senator Tim Kaine and Rand Paul and Congressmen Tom Massie and Ro Khanna.
This is yet another broken promise from Trump — a complete reversal from Trump’s claimed opposition to costly, unnecessary wars in the Middle East. Wide majorities of Americans did not want this war.
His administration must now answer: How does this war help American families? Whose interests are served by a regime change war in Iran?
Instead of fixing soaring healthcare costs and addressing high inflation, Trump’s military adventurism is a distraction. It places U.S. servicemembers in danger. Prolonged conflict and instability in the region will drain resources and attention from issues Americans are facing at home.
This was not a war of necessity but a war of choice. Trump owns this decision, with all its costs and the chaos to follow.
