Washington, DC – We are deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman Gerry Connolly. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
Congressman Connolly was a champion for an American foreign policy rooted in our values. Throughout his time in Congress, he was a leading voice on foreign assistance, democracy promotion, and the role of diplomacy and development in addressing global security challenges and complementing U.S. military efforts.
First elected to represent Virginia’s 11th Congressional District in 2008, Congressman Connolly was a longtime member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. He also served as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and as the Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
“Our hearts go out to Congressman Connolly’s family and his team. Representative Connolly was a powerful and inspiring advocate for principled American leadership on the world stage and for the people who serve our country across the federal government to defend our national security, deepen our international partnerships, and deliver life-saving aid,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “We are proud to have worked alongside him and deeply grateful for his decades of public service.”
