FP4A Statement on the U.S.-Brokered Pause in Fighting in Gaza and Release of Hostages

Washington, D.C. – Foreign Policy for America welcomes today’s announcement of a pause in fighting in Gaza and the release of dozens of women and children being held hostage by Hamas. We applaud the Biden administration for securing this agreement, and we urge the parties to continue negotiations until all remaining hostages are released.

All sides must now ensure that the delivery of life-saving assistance is significantly ramped up, to include food, water, medicine, and fuel, particularly during this pause in fighting.

“Today’s achievement – secured through tireless diplomatic negotiations – must be the first step toward broader regional efforts to see the release of all hostages and an end to the cycles of violence that have plagued Israeli and Palestinian communities,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “This pause in fighting should continue as long as is necessary to deliver desperately needed humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including food, water, medicine, and fuel for civilian purposes.”
