Washington, DC – Today, Foreign Policy for America was pleased to host Ambassador Katherine Tai, the U.S. Trade Representative, and Richard R. Verma, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, as keynote speakers as part of its 2023 Leadership Summit.

Ambassador Katherine Tai joined the Summit for a fireside chat, moderated by The Washington Post’s Heather Long. In keeping with the theme of the Summit, Ambassador Tai discussed the links between the Biden Administration’s investments within the United States and our international trade and economic agenda abroad. She is quoted saying, “American foreign policy starts at home. Trade policy starts at home.”

Deputy Secretary Verma offered keynote remarks at the Summit. In his speech, he outlined how the State Department, recently welcoming its largest every incoming class of new foreign service officer, is modernizing so that U.S. foreign policy can better deliver for the American people.
