Foreign Policy for America Statement on Ceasefire in Israel and Palestine

Washington, DC – Foreign Policy for America is relieved by news of a ceasefire between Israeli forces and Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups. The tragic violence of the last two weeks spotlights the need for real and meaningful change to produce the freedom, security, dignity, and prosperity that Israelis and Palestinians deserve. We urge the Biden administration to seize this opportunity to pursue continued diplomacy aimed at achieving an end to Hamas rocket attacks, an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and embargo of Gaza, and durable security for the Israeli and Palestinian people.

“The past two weeks of bloodshed has brought nothing but tragedy for the Israeli and Palestinian people,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “Today’s ceasefire is a necessary step in the right direction, but without robust U.S.-led diplomatic efforts aimed at a permanent peace deal, I fear that the cycle of violence and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza will continue.”
