Foreign Policy for America Statement on the Senate Letter Urging Return to the JCPOA

Washington, DC – Following the release of the letter led by Senators Chris Murphy and Tim Kaine supporting the Biden-Harris administration’s diplomatic efforts to re-enter the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or Iran nuclear deal, Foreign Policy for America released the following statement:

“Foreign Policy for America thanks Senators Murphy and Kaine for leading over half of the Democratic caucus in the Senate in calling for a return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), based on a “compliance for compliance” approach. Now is the time for America’s elected leaders to put their faith in American diplomats and to support the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to return to the deal, which verifiably blocked Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon. Returning to the JCPOA will build the foundation for additional negotiations down the road to address Iranian behavior in the region, as well as the provisions of the JCPOA that expire soon. Senate Democrats clearly understand that restricting Iran’s nuclear program through a return to the JCPOA is in the national security interests of the United States, and Foreign Policy for America supports those efforts.”
