Foreign Policy for America Statement on the Launch of the Secure Families Initiative

Washington, DC – Foreign Policy for America is proud to announce the launch of the Secure Families Initiative — an effort by military spouses for military spouses, dedicated to organizing and training military family members as powerful voices on issues of war and peace.

SFI’s mission is:

“To elevate military spouses and family members as uniquely qualified advocates and organizers on matters of foreign policy.”

FP4A helped launch SFI out of a recognition that, in recent years, the burden of America’s foreign policy is falling increasingly on the shoulders of military service members, their spouses, and their family members. The current high operational tempo has taken a toll on military families. We appreciate and support their calls for a return to diplomacy-first foreign policy.

From voter registration to training and advocacy, Secure Families Initiative will be a reliable and relatable resource for taking action and speaking out about the foreign policy issues that impact military families.

“Military spouses are powerful,” said SFI Director and military spouse Sarah Streyder. “Our voices are inspiring. We have the opportunity to make a difference on the course of history. It’s up to us to take that step and act. Together.”

“We’re excited to be the home for this groundbreaking effort,” said Andrew Albertson, Executive Director of Foreign Policy for America. “Military spouses and family members know personally the consequences that wars abroad have here at home. Every one of us should listen more to what they have to say.”
